Two people dead after crash on Highway 80
UPDATE (7:43 PM) - The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) said two people died in a car crash on Highway 80 and Avenue 26 E.
Deputies responded to the crash on Tuesday morning.
A white freight truck hauling two trailers was driving eastbound on Highway 80.
The driver of the freight truck lost control of the vehicle which resulted in the trailers crossing the center line and crashing into a Toyota Tundra driving westbound on Highway 80.
YCSO said the driver of the Toyota, 75-year-old Margarita Lopez, got fatal injuries and died at the scene.
While the passenger of the Toyota, 57-year-old Gilberto Lopez Jr., was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
He then died at the hospital due to his injuries.
YCSO said the next of kin has been notified.
This case is still under investigation.
According to YCSO, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) said both east and westbound lanes are closed on Highway 80 at Avenue 26 E due to a fatal crash.
Deputies are at the area responding to the crash.
YCSO said to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
