Local sheriffs speak on border security
PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona House of Representatives hosted a Special Joint Legislative Session on Wednesday about the border situation.
Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot and Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels briefed state legislators on the situation at the southern border.
Both elected officials shared the struggles their departments have faced and also thanked the legislators for their continued support and resources.
Despite the ongoing battles with Mexican cartels crossing the border, Sheriff Wilmot was asked if he felt the border wall gaps should be filled.
"Yes finishing the fence will help, its hard infrastructure, it was already there, in Yuma, there is only seven miles left to get done, as well as the electronics, the cameras, and sensors, all of that, was stopped as well," stated Yuma County Sheriff Wilmot.
According to the state House of Representatives, the Special Joint Session was requested by Rep. Tim Dunn (R-Arizona) of Yuma.
