Rain showers and breezier conditions on this Wednesday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - The first weather systems moved across the area today bringing a brief period of light showers.

It did bring us the first rainfall of the new year, where parts of Yuma County saw a few hundredths of an inch.

We also received our strongest winds of the year with highest gusts of 36 MPH for both Yuma and El Centro.

Wind direction will shift tomorrow, keeping the desert Southwest breezy for Thursday.

Highest gusts of 20 MPH is posisble, with stronger winds impacting Yuma County.

A second and even colder weather system is then expected for Sunday bringing additional rain and gustier conditions.

Temperatures will also cool off starting Thursday resulting in slightly below-normal temperatures with highs in the mid 60s.

Colder afternoons and overnight freezing temperatures are likely starting early next week.
