Four people injured in crash involving multiple vehicles

UPDATE (2 PM) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) sent out a press release.

Deputies responded to a four-vehicle crash Friday morning around 5:50 a.m. in the area of E. Highway 95 and S. Avenue 5E.

YCSO said a white 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was driving westbound on E. Highway 95 when it merged into oncoming traffic and crashed with a gold 1999 Toyota 4Runner driving eastbound.

Deputies said a vehicle driving behind the 4Runner and a vehicle driving behind the Trailblazer was unable to stop in time and crashed into the other two vehicles.

Rural Metro responded and took all sole occupants of the four vehicles to Yuma Regional Medical Center.

YCSO said the driver of the Toyota 4Runner was later airlifted to a Phoenix-area hospital with serious injuries and the other three drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"There's a report of multiple injuries all four vehicles had sole occupants in them all were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. Although there was one occupant that had to be airlifted to a Phoenix area hospital with more critical injuries," said Tania Pavlak, YCSO Public Information Officer.

This case is under investigation.

YCSO said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

UPDATE (9 AM) - All lanes are open on Highway 95.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Deputies are at the scene of a crash on Highway 95 near Avenue 5E.

There is traffic as all lanes are closed.

The vehicles involved in the crash have been removed.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office deputies are still at the scene.

According to a witness, there were four vehicles involved in the crash and two of them were fully damaged.
