NBC News' Mark Barger previews Hollywood's biggest night

HOLLYWOOD, Calif (KYMA, KECY/NBC News) - Whether nominees at Sunday night's Academy Awards come way victorious or not, they'll almost certainly be ready to party afterwards.

"Nobody wants to drink warm champagne."

And the Governor's Ball will oblige.

"I think people maybe indulge just a little bit more than they normally do." said Kyle Kaplan with Piper Heidseick Champagne.

Piper Hiedsieck has 1,500 magnums at the ready.

Francis Ford Coppola's winery is also providing 1,200 bottles of wine, and there are cocktails aplenty...

"This is the Hollywood high ball"

Including virgin versions.

"No alcohol in it at all"

And for those empty stomachs...

"Look at that beautiful black truffle! umm!"

Wolfgang Puck and company are putting together the menu. 70-percent of it featuring plant-based offerings.

"Anybody can have a great vegan experience, you know?"said Puck.

But before the party, the front runners in the Oscars four acting categories could complete their domination of award season.

"However, and there's always an however, this is exactly when the Oscars loves to throw you a curveball." said Fandango correspondent Nikki Novak.

It happened last year, when heavy favorite Glenn Close missed out on best actress.

This year's biggest drama is best picture. "The Irishman" and "Marriage Story" were early front runners, along with "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." But recent momentum has swung to World War I epic "1917," and South Korean thriller "Parasite."

"The game totally changed this season, and that's what makes it one of the most exciting Oscars in recent history." said Novak.

All setting the golden stage for a golden night.
