Southern California awakes to erroneous tsunami warning

Officials call sirens false alarm.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The tsunami warning sirens that woke thousands of Huntington Beach residents early Friday morning were a false alarm.

The Huntington Beach Fire Department says there was never an threat to the city. Authorities are trying to find out what activated the alarms.

The city's website says all eight of its fire stations have tsunami warning sirens. They're usually tested at noon on the first Friday of every month.

Huntington Beach has about 10-miles of coastline.
