Man accused of murdering woman
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma man arrested for allegedly murdering the mother of his children was in court Monday.
33-year-old Carlos Tafoya Jr. is facing two charges, one being first-degree murder and the other, abandoning or concealing a dead body.
Yuma police say officers arrived at a home near Sixth Place and 19th Avenue just after 9 p.m. on Sunday.
“Sunday, October 1st around 9:10 pm officers responded to the 600 block of 19th avenue in reference to a suspicious incident," stated Sgt. Lori Franklin from the Yuma Police Department (YPD).
That's where they found the body.
“They needed to do a welfare check on a female that lived at that address, they were allowed access into the residence and she was located deceased in one of the bedrooms. The male subject that resides in the house was taken into custody and booked for homicide," stated Sgt. Lori Franklin.
Police say they found the woman dead and wrapped inside blankets.
A representative from Amberly’s Place read a letter from the victim’s mother saying Tafoya should serve life in prison.
She wants to have custody of their children.
Meanwhile according to YPD, the City of Yuma has seen eight murders this year.
That's already three more than last year.
Tafoya’s bond was set at $1 million cash only and he will be back in court on Wednesday.
