Program assists Arizonans with utility bills

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona has two programs for residents who may have a tough time with their lights and water bills.

Paying for your light and water bills should not stress you out.

The two programs are from the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Low-income residents who may struggle with making ends meet and paying their light bills should apply.

“Priority for service assistance is determined based on vulnerable family members, priority may be granted if someone in the home is a senior citizen, which is defined by the federal government as 60 years of age and older, an individual of a disability, a veteran or a child under six years of age," Tasya Petersen, Department of Economic Security Press Secretary.

The program is federally funded.

Those who qualify may receive up to $1,200 dollars per year with the electric program and up to $3,000 for the water bill program.

“If there is somebody out there maybe eligible check out what the provisions are. Hopefully, we can get some assistance out there to the folks who really need it right now," said Petersen.
