Monsoon blows roof off of Arizona home, owner still in shock

TUCSON, Ariz. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The storm that rolled through Tucson was strong enough to rip the roof off of one man’s home, located near the foothills, and the homeowner still in shock about the damage.

David Larson has lived in this home off Swan and River for 20 years and says he’s never seen a monsoon storm quite like this.

"I've never seen a storm effect my property like this before," Larson declared.

Larson says he was home at the time. First, the wind started to pick up, then powerful rain and hail. And then, he says within seconds, the unthinkable: A portion of his roof gets torn off the house.

"That is what's left of my roof. It completely peeled off and sections of it are in the pool," Larson detailed.

Never underestimate how strong storms can be

Then, it continued to rain on his exposed roof, flooding his dining room and kitchen.

"It came right through...you can see droplets on the ceiling," Larson shared.

Larson says the house has been here since 1959 and survived many monsoons. Until now. He warns people in the community to never underestimate how strong these storms can be.

"I've never seen a storm come in that quick. That strong, and that destructive," Larson remarked.

Larson says he and his wife now face a big clean up as they await his insurance company to come cover their roof. They can only hope more rain isn’t on its way.
