Judge finds enough evidence to move forward with Campos case

Antonio Campos was accused of murdering his ex-wife in 2021

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A judge has just determined there is enough probable cause to move forward with a murder trial out of Imperial County.

This after more details were revealed on Wednesday as the victim's mother and sister took the witness stand to testify.

It took five days of listening to testimonies, going through evidence, and finally the preliminary hearing has come to an end with the judge finding enough evidence to move forward in the murder trial of Antonio Campos.

“The number of difference ways that the people have presented for this case it fails on consciousness of guilt it’s actually quite astonishing," said Judge Poli Flores.

Those were the words of Judge Poli Flores Jr. after finding enough evidence to move forward in day five of the preliminary hearing for 41-year-old Antonio Campos accused of murdering his ex-wife, Rose Campos near Calexico in 2021.

Rose's mother said the night before her daughter was murdered, she spent the night at her home, saying she overheard a phone conversation with someone telling her she had to be at her property in the morning.

That was the same morning she was murdered.

The prosecution is arguing that the suspect, 41-year-old Antonio Campos had a tracking device with a microphone installed and that he overheard where Rose would be that morning.

Rose's mother shared about the day of her daughter's murder and she was desperately looking for her and called the suspect, 41-year-old Antonio Campos, to see if he had seen her.

She said he replied by laughing at her saying, “She is probably with one of her lovers."

The victim’s twin sister said Rose would call her in the middle of the night to tell her about the alleged abuse by Antonio Campos, describing one night Rose called her crying, saying Campos was possessed and started to choke her.

Rose’s twin sister told us how she felt on the stand following her testimony.

“I honestly felt relieved because I’ve been storing all of these feelings inside of me. So I felt good that I was able to speak about that case, I felt, I am still sad but I also felt good," said Isabel Reyna, victim's sister.

The suspect will remain in custody with no bond.

He will be back in court later this month.
