Tracking nicer conditions into the week

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After weeks of extreme heat, temperatures are finally trending downward across Yuma and Imperial Counties as we head into the new week.

For Sunday, Yuma is expected to reach a high near 108°F, while El Centro climbs to around 110°F.

While it will remain hot, both areas are seeing temperatures begin to ease from the extreme heat that has dominated the region in recent weeks.

That downward trend continues Monday, with Yuma forecast to reach 105°F and El Centro around 107°F.

Humidity levels are also expected to remain more manageable compared to recent weeks. Dew points across the region are generally expected to stay in the 50s and 60s, keeping conditions noticeably less muggy than the tropical moisture we experienced at times last weekend.

Winds will be a bigger factor, especially across Imperial County.

In Yuma, winds remain relatively light Sunday, with winds around 10 mph and gusts potentially reaching 20 mph. Monday will bring light and variable winds at 5 to 10 mph.

El Centro will be breezier. Sunday night, winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Monday will remain breezy, with winds between 5 and 15 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.

Monday night, El Centro could again see gusts reach 30 mph.

There is also a 10% chance for showers and thunderstorms in Yuma late tonight into the early morning hours, although most of the region will remain dry.

Despite the improving trend, temperatures will still be well above average. Continue practicing heat safety, especially during the afternoon hours, as we gradually transition away from the prolonged stretch of extreme heat.
