New local program to help animals find their way home

Lost animals are a common problem in the community, the new program will help prevent this

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY) partnered with local businesses to help lost animals find their way home.

Executive Director Annette Lagunas stated, “We are inundated with stray animals, owner surrenders, and sick and injured animals on a regular basis. We wanted to launch this program before the busy 4th of July holiday due to the sheer number of animals that get lost because of their fear of fireworks, lights, and celebrations.

Lost animals can be taken to one of eight local businesses that will have a microchip scanner to scan the animal and help it find its way home.

One local business, Fine Line Printing 928, mentions they are committed to helping wherever needed.

Owners Kevin and Dundee Dempsey shared, “If it means saving the lives of innocent animals, we’re on board! Our home-based business is open 7 days/week and our microchip scanner is ready to help reunited lost animals with their owners!”

HSOY another partner, Real Estate Agent Shelley Ostrowski is even willing to go the extra mile and will drive to the person who found the animal if she’s able.

Another business, Country Club RV is putting out the welcome mat and offering a hydration station and treats for any lost animal while waiting to find their way home.

HSOY advised the best way to get animals home is by using a scanner to check for microchips and get the information from the microchip company.

HSOY also mentioned they are offering free microchips for all animals.
