Abby Roque looks to make Olympic history on the ice
She is part of the Wahnapitae First Nation peoples
Abby Roque is not satisfied with just being a standout.
The Wisconsin hockey player has now gone pro and in three short months she could become the first Native American female athlete to represent team USA in the sport.
Roque was brought up with the rich traditions of the Wahnapitae First Nation, an indigenous group located in northern Ontario.
The 24 year old has spoken out on why she wants to use this journey to put a spotlight on diversifying the sport she loves.
