Flash Flood Watch Issued for Desert Southwest

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY, KSWT)- The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for Yuma County and surrounding areas Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.

Portions of southwest Arizona and southeast California including Imperial Valley, and Southeastern Imperial Valley, southwest Arizona including Gila River Valley, Kofa, and Southeast Yuma County.

The watch is in effect from 1 p.m. MST Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.

According to NWS, a series of storms will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to parts of southeast California and southwest Arizona through Wednesday afternoon.

The strongest storm system will produce periods of heavy rain, which could lead to flooding of washes and small streams.

If you are in the watch area for floods, you should be prepared to take immediate action if heavy rain and flooding occur.
