FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Gusty Winds and cooler temperatures continue into new week
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A series of weather disturbances will keep conditions unsettled across Arizona this week, bringing gusty winds, cooler temperatures, and slight chances for rain in some areas.
A weather system moving into the region Sunday night will bring the first round of changes, with winds picking up across southeast California and southwest Arizona.
Wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour are expected in some areas, prompting a Wind Advisory for the Imperial Valley until 11 p.m. Sunday.
Along with the wind, a cold front will push through on Monday, dropping temperatures well below normal. Highs will be 6 to 10 degrees below average, making for a noticeably cooler start to the week.
While most of the precipitation will stay over the high terrain of northern Arizona, a few light showers may develop in lower desert areas.
Midweek, temperatures will briefly rebound to near normal before another stronger system arrives late Thursday into Friday. This second disturbance could bring another round of gusty winds, blowing dust, and scattered showers, especially along the cold front as it moves through the state.
Despite the active weather, no major rainfall is expected in the lower deserts. However, fire weather concerns remain low as humidity levels will be slightly higher with this week's storms.
For travelers, expect reduced visibility due to dust in some areas, especially near Interstate 8 (I-8) and Interstate 10 (I-10).
