Tracking a warming trend through the Fourth of July holiday weekend

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - We are still seeing cloudy conditions as we celebrate America's 250th birthday on Saturday. But, we're tracking warmer temperatures that are going to continue through the weekend and into our work week.

We're tracking high temperatures on the Fourth of July of 105°F in both the cities of Yuma and El Centro. By Sunday, those highs are expected to rise to 109°F in both cities. Looking ahead to the work week, we are following some Extreme Heat Watches across the region that will begin on Tuesday and expire Thursday evening.

With the cloud coverage tracking to stick around in the region until the evening hours on Sunday, we are seeing a slight chance for precipitation in Yuma and Imperial Counties on Saturday after 2 p.m. We could experience light sprinkles that wouldn't put a damper on any of the evening fireworks shows.

Winds are also going to be cooperating throughout the holiday weekend. Wind gusts on the fourth around 7:30 p.m. are tracking in the 10-15 mile per hour range in Yuma County. In Imperial County, we are seeing slight stronger gusts in the 19-22 mile per hour range. Into the evening hours, gusts will drop off a bit making for nice conditions.

By Sunday morning, we are tracking single-digit wind gusts in Imperial County and gusts in the 12-16 mile per hour range in Yuma County. Into the evening we are tracking similar winds in Yuma County, while gusts in Imperial County will jump up to 21-25 miles per hour.
