Heat continues across Desert Southwest through early next week
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) -Â Yuma and the Desert Southwest will remain locked in a stretch of above-normal heat, with temperatures expected to hover several degrees above average through the beginning of next week.
Forecast highs will stay in the triple digits, leading to widespread moderate heat risk across the region.
A strong high-pressure system off the Southern California coast is keeping the region hot and dry, with mostly sunny skies dominating the forecast.
Winds will follow typical daily patterns light in the mornings with some afternoon breezes, generally staying below 20 miles per hour.
Humidity levels will remain low during the day and only recover modestly overnight, especially in lower elevation areas like Yuma.
This prolonged stretch of heat means it's important to take precautions: Limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check in on vulnerable individuals.
Conditions are expected to gradually return closer to seasonal averages later next week, but for now, the heat remains the main story in the southwest.
