Heat builds across Southwest, triple digits possible by week’s end

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A ridge of high pressure is taking hold over the Southwest, setting the stage for a week of well above-normal temperatures.

Starting Monday, the region will begin to warm significantly, with highs climbing into the upper 90s and even flirting with 100 degrees by Thursday and Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the ridge will continue strengthening through midweek, peaking late Thursday with atmospheric heights nearing record territory.

That means desert communities, including the Phoenix metro and parts of Yuma County, have a 70 to 90 percent chance of hitting the century mark.

While the skies will remain mostly clear and dry, the heat could still be dangerous for those with limited access to cooling or hydration. Moderate heat risk conditions are expected to develop later this week, especially Thursday and Friday.

Overnight lows will provide some relief, generally dipping into the low to mid 60s but expect a week full of warmer conditions ahead.
