Beautiful weekend for Desert Southwest with unseasonably high temperatures on the way

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Desert Southwest, including Yuma and Imperial Counties, is set to experience a significant warm-up as high pressure strengthens over the region.

Forecasters predict dry and tranquil weather through the weekend, with temperatures steadily climbing well above seasonal norms.

By Saturday, daytime highs are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 80s, about five-eight degrees above average for this time of year. A slight increase in cloud cover on Sunday could temper the heat slightly, but the overall warming trend will continue into next week.

Early next week, an unseasonably strong upper-level ridge will peak over the Western United States, bringing temperatures well into the 90s across the lower desert areas. Monday and Tuesday are expected to be the hottest days, with some locations challenging or even breaking daily heat records. Forecast models indicate a strong likelihood—over 80% on Monday and more than 90% on Tuesday—of reaching or exceeding record highs.

In some of the warmest desert locations, including Yuma, there is a 40-60% chance of hitting 100 degrees on Tuesday.

Despite the fluctuations, dry conditions are expected to persist throughout the next week. Residents should prepare for the heat by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and checking in on vulnerable individuals.
