Storm system could bring rain to the Desert Southwest

Could potential storms bring rain to Yuma and Imperial Counties this week?

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Desert Southwest could see a shift in weather this week as a series of storm systems move through the region.

While conditions remain warm and dry for now, there's a chance of rain and gusty winds beginning Tuesday night, though how much moisture actually reaches Yuma and Imperial Counties remains uncertain.

Monday will be another warm day with above-normal temperatures, but by late Tuesday, a weakening storm system will push into the area. Light showers are possible, but with how these systems tend to play out, measurable rainfall isn’t guaranteed.

Areas east of Yuma, especially near the foothills and higher elevations, have a slightly better shot at seeing rain, though totals are expected to be on the lower side.

A second, potentially stronger system could arrive late Thursday into Friday, bringing another chance for rain, cooler temperatures, and windy conditions. Wind gusts could reach 30-40 mph, making for breezy conditions even if rain doesn't materialize.

By the weekend, drier weather is expected to return, with temperatures bouncing back to more average conditions.
