Excessive heat will stick around through the week

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Dangerous heat remains as a concern all this week with an Excessive Heat Warning in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday for the entire Desert Southwest.

Make sure to stay in cool air-conditioned buildings, drink plenty of water, reduce time in the sun, and make sure to check on your elderly, kids, and pets.

Increasing breeziness is possible through tonight where highest gusts could reach up to 35 MPH in Imperial County, winds will start to decrease after midnight.

Persistent high pressure will continue to bring in the heat and with the southerly flow it's also filtering in in some extra moisture.

Portions of Arizona but will favor the rain showers and thunderstorms for higher elevation areas through the rest of the work week.

High and low temperatures will trend close to daily record temperatures throughout the week.

Thunderstorm potential is anticipated to trend upward over the weekend across portions of Arizona and rain chances are looking about a 20-30% chance for Yuma on Sunday and Monday.
