FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking gusty winds through early Monday morning

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Extreme wind gusts are pushing through the region, affecting the Imperial Valley on a larger scale.

A Wind Advisory is issued for El Centro and surrounding areas from 7 p.m. Sunday night until 3 a.m. Monday morning will feature gusts between 45-50 mph.

Areas like Ocotillo will have higher gusts between 50-60 mph. An Air Quality Alert is also issued for El Centro and surrounding areas from 4 p.m. Sunday until midnight.

Yuma has no wind or air quality alerts as of now, and the highest gusts will be between 30-35 mph.

If you are in areas where the air quality is expected to be poor, please ensure you are taking safety precautions, whether it's avoiding the outdoors for long periods of time, or wearing a mask if outside.

Outside of extreme winds, the clouds are holding off for Sunday after originally tracking a covered Desert Southwest sky. We are still tracking them to be present Monday.

Temperatures are going to sit in the mid 90s in the late afternoon. Then, we will see a substantial drop-off to start the work week.

Highs for Monday are barely going to break into the 80s in both Yuma and El Centro.

As for the next few days, the winds are posing the biggest weather threat in our area.
