Warm up for Friday before great weekend conditions
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - A familiar spring pattern is settling in across the Desert Southwest, bringing dry conditions, breezy afternoons, and temperatures right around normal for this time of year.
For now, conditions remain steady across Yuma and the Lower Colorado River Valley, with afternoon highs landing in the mid-80s, right where we typically expect them in late April.
High clouds continue to pass overhead, but no major weather systems are expected to bring significant rain.
That said, wind will once again be the main story.
As we head into Friday, temperatures will tick up slightly into the upper 80s and low 90s, but stronger winds, especially in southeast California, could become an issue by the evening hours.
Gusts could climb above 40 miles per hour in parts of Imperial County, creating the potential for blowing dust and reduced visibility in open desert areas.
The breezy pattern sticks around into the weekend as another weak system moves through the region. While it won’t bring much moisture, it will help drop temperatures a bit.
By Sunday, highs are expected to cool into the upper 70s to low 80s, slightly below normal, with gusty winds continuing across much of the area.
There is a very small chance for a few light showers late Saturday into early Sunday, but most areas will stay dry, with little to no measurable rainfall expected.
Looking ahead to next week, the pattern doesn't change much.
Temperatures rebound back into the mid to upper 80s by Tuesday, with continued dry conditions and occasional breezes sticking around through the end of the month.
Overall, it's a typical late-April setup for the region, warm days, cool nights, and plenty of wind, but not much in the way of rain.
