Cooler temps, breezy winds move in before weekend warm-up

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After a stretch of near-record heat, Yuma is finally seeing a cooldown, but the change won't last long.

Temperatures will continue to drop through Wednesday, settling into the mid-80s across the lower deserts.

While that's closer to normal for this time of year, it will still remain slightly above average.

Along with the cooler air, breezy conditions are expected to pick up across the region. Winds could gust between 20 to 25 miles per hour, with even stronger gusts possible west of Yuma in parts of Imperial County.

There is also a slight chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms through Wednesday, but most of that activity is expected to stay over higher terrain in Arizona. Any rainfall in the lower deserts is expected to be light or minimal.

By Thursday, skies clear out as drier air moves in, keeping temperatures steady in the mid to upper 80s through the end of the week.

Looking ahead to the weekend, another warm-up is on the way. Highs are expected to climb back into the low to mid 90s by Sunday and into early next week.

Fire weather concerns could also increase as humidity levels drop heading into the weekend.

For now, enjoy the brief break from the heat. It won't stick around for long.
