Winds holding off until evening, temperatures on the decline

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Temperatures are still pushing records today with El Centro expected to set another daily record (97°F in 1969). We're tracking highs at 100°F late in the afternoon in the Imperial Valley. Yuma County will register just below at 97°F.

Winds will play a factor in our weather pattern throughout today, but will pick up towards the evening. They will most likely sit in the mid-to-high teens starting around 5 p.m., but are tracking to max out close to 20mph at various points from the late evening and into early tomorrow morning. This is holding true in both Yuma County and the Imperial Valley. As we are currently tracking, Monday will come with even higher winds.

Following today, the Desert Southwest can anticipate a drop in temperatures for the upcoming week. El Centro is trending a little hotter than Yuma, but both cities should both sit in the mid-to-high 90s at peak temperatures tomorrow. From there, no threat of triple digits is on our radar for at least the next week.

There will be plenty of cloud coverage this week. However, no rain will accompany it.

The Desert Southwest will be more gloomy through at least Wednesday, but relief from the unseasonable heat is finally here.
