CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Snow blankets streets of Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CBS, KYMA) - A dangerous snow storm swept the the tri-state area Sunday, prompting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to issue an overnight travel ban.

Video filmed by Dakota Flournoy in Brooklyn shows heavy snowfall in windy conditions.

Mayor Mamdani announced a "full snow day" Monday for students, with "no remote learning" and "no logging on."

"Our first real snow day in seven years. This blizzard is serious. Stay inside. Travel ban 9 p.m. to noon tomorrow so crews can keep streets clear," the mayor wrote in a post on X.

The National Weather Service recorded a snow fall rate of two-inches per hour at their New York office from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and said they "expected multiple heavy snow bands overnight into Monday morning."
