Springlike weather sticking around
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Unseasonably warm temperatures are settling in across the Desert Southwest, with highs running well above average through midweek.
High pressure building over the region is pushing temperatures into the upper 70s and low 80s today, with even warmer conditions expected Wednesday. Some Valley locations could climb into the mid-80s, putting Phoenix within striking distance of daily record highs set just last year.
Along with the warmth, winds will become a bigger factor. Breezy northeasterly to easterly winds are expected Wednesday and Thursday, with gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour across the lower deserts. Stronger gusts — up to 35 or even 45 miles per hour — are possible across higher terrain and mountain areas.
Despite increasing winds and some high clouds later this week, conditions will remain dry. Above-normal temperatures are expected to hold through the weekend, with highs generally staying in the upper 70s.
Looking ahead, a pattern change appears more likely early next week. Cooler temperatures and a slight chance for rain could arrive by the middle of next week, though confidence remains low on exact timing and coverage.
For now, expect warm, dry weather with breezy conditions midweek before things begin to trend cooler next week.
