Mild start to the week, cooler weather ahead

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - If you've been enjoying the mild January weather, you’re not alone and it’s sticking around a bit longer.

For Yuma and Imperial Counties, temperatures will stay slightly above normal through Tuesday, with afternoon highs hovering near 70 degrees across the lower deserts.

Overnight lows will remain on the mild side as well, dropping into the low to mid-50s, thanks to increasing cloud cover moving in from the west.

As we head into the middle of the week, changes arrive. A pair of weather systems will pass south of our area, bringing cooler air and more clouds.

While the best rain chances will stay east of us in south-central Arizona, Yuma and Imperial counties could still see mostly cloudy skies and a noticeable cooldown.

By Wednesday and Thursday, highs are expected to fall back to near or slightly below normal, with daytime temperatures dipping into the mid to upper 60s. Overnight lows will cool into the 40s, especially in outlying and desert areas.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast turns quieter. High pressure builds back in, bringing drier conditions and a gradual warming trend, setting us up for more pleasant weather heading into the second half of January.

For now, enjoy the mild start to the week cooler desert air is right around the corner.
