Warm, dry weather continues across the Desert Southwest

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) — Unseasonably warm and dry conditions continue across Yuma and Imperial counties, with temperatures running well above normal for mid-December and little day-to-day change expected through the rest of the week.

High pressure remains firmly in control, keeping skies mostly clear and conditions quiet. Afternoon highs today are expected to reach the mid to upper 70s in Yuma, with parts of the Imperial Valley once again flirting with 80 degrees. Those warm readings are roughly 10 degrees above seasonal averages and will persist into Thursday.

Little change is expected overnight, as clear skies and light winds allow for mild evenings and comfortable mornings. Winds across the region will stay light and follow typical daily patterns, offering no major impacts.

Heading into Friday and the weekend, temperatures are expected to climb even higher. Forecast highs are projected to range between the upper 70s and low 80s, pushing readings closer to 15 degrees above normal. Dry conditions will continue, with no rain in sight and plenty of sunshine dominating the forecast.

Early next week brings more of the same, with warm afternoons and calm conditions continuing across the region. While minor fluctuations in temperatures are possible from day to day, overall conditions remain steady and well above average.

Looking farther ahead, a potential pattern change could arrive during the latter half of next week. Forecast models suggest a shift that may allow moisture to move into the region, increasing the chance for rainfall and slightly cooler temperatures. Confidence remains low on exact timing, but any precipitation that does develop would fall as rain due to the warm air in place.

For now, residents can expect continued warm, dry weather across Yuma and Imperial counties as December rolls on.
