Dry, sunny stretch shows no signs of slowing down

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Residents in Yuma and Imperial Counties can expect the warm, quiet weather pattern to continue, with temperatures running well above normal through the rest of the week and into next week.

A strong ridge of high pressure sitting just off the California coast continues to dominate the Southwest. That system is keeping skies mostly clear and pushing temperatures into the upper 70s and low 80s, more like early fall than mid-December.

Both Yuma and El Centro are expected to flirt with daily record highs at times, but the odds of actually breaking those records remain low. Still, highs around 80° will be common through Friday, and some neighborhoods could briefly climb a couple of degrees higher.

Warm afternoons will continue into the weekend as the ridge holds, although a couple of weak disturbances could bring some passing high clouds by Sunday. Even with that, temperatures will stay unseasonably warm, near 80° on Saturday, and still in the mid to upper 70s early next week.

No rain is expected for at least the next week, and models show this dry pattern holding steady well into next Thursday.

Winds remain light across both counties, following normal day–night patterns. Despite the warm afternoons, overnight lows will still cool into the upper 40s and 50s thanks to clear skies.

Humidity stays above critical fire-weather levels, so no fire concerns are expected.

Bottom line: Warm, dry, and quiet weather continues with no signs of rain anytime soon.
