Showers clear out, warming trend ahead

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Morning showers and a few rumbles of thunder moved through the region Monday, but conditions are quickly drying out across Yuma and Imperial Counties.

Cloud cover helped keep temperatures in check this morning, but skies will clear Monday afternoon with highs topping out in the mid to upper 90s.

The next couple of days will stay dry as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Southwest. That means a noticeable warm-up, with highs climbing above 100 degrees by Tuesday and potentially reaching 104–106 degrees on Wednesday in parts of the desert.

Heat risk levels will be moderate to major during the midweek peak.

By late week, another low pressure system is expected to move inland from California. That could bring back shower and thunderstorm chances as early as Thursday evening, with the best chance of widespread rainfall arriving Friday.

Strong storms and heavy downpours will be possible if enough moisture builds back in.

Temperatures will start to cool down as that system approaches, with highs dropping into the low to mid-90s by the weekend.
