Rain chances rising in Yuma and Imperial counties, flooding possible thursday
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) -Â Rain chances are on the rise across Yuma and Imperial Counties, with the highest potential for showers and thunderstorms expected Thursday.
Moisture from the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Mario is moving north into the region, helping fuel the storm activity.
The National Weather Service says Yuma has already seen higher moisture levels than much of the desert Southwest, setting the stage for scattered storms.
Forecasters say the best chance for rain will be Thursday, with storm coverage at 40-60% across Yuma and Imperial Counties. Some storms may linger into Friday, though activity should shift more toward Arizona's high terrain.
Localized heavy rain is possible, with some spots picking up one to two inches, while other areas may see little to no rainfall. That raises the risk of minor flooding in parts of southwest Arizona.
Temperatures will drop below normal Thursday, but rebound quickly by the weekend. Highs are expected to climb back near the triple digits by Saturday, with 105-108 degrees possible early next week.
