Cooling trend brings storm chances again this week
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Residents in Yuma and Imperial counties can expect some relief from the heat this week, as temperatures begin a gradual cooldown.
Widespread below-normal readings are likely by the end of the week, with some areas even struggling to hit triple digits as early as Wednesday.
Moisture moving into the region will also fuel daily chances for showers and thunderstorms through the weekend.
Any storms that do form could bring heavy downpours, lightning, gusty winds over 35 miles per hour, and pockets of blowing dust. Localized flash flooding is also possible in low-lying areas.
While uncertainty remains about the exact timing of storms each day, the overall pattern favors a more active stretch of weather.
Storm chances are expected to be highest Thursday and Friday as additional moisture arrives.
By early next week, conditions are expected to dry out, which will likely lead to a rebound in temperatures across the Desert Southwest.
