Extreme Heat Warning is back through Friday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Dangerous heat is building across Yuma and Imperial Counties, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through Friday evening.

Afternoon highs are expected to reach 110 to 115 degrees, with overnight lows staying in the upper 80s to low 90s, offering little relief after sunset.

Thursday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures approaching record levels.

The National Weather Service says everyone should take precautions, including limiting outdoor activity, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

While the heat dominates in the short term, there is some change on the way. Moisture from the monsoon is expected to increase by the weekend, bringing a 20–40% chance of showers and thunderstorms to our area.

Temperatures are expected to trend slightly lower over the weekend, but will remain well above normal. More cooling is possible early next week as the high-pressure system weakens.
