Dangerous temps continue until midweek
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The desert heat is holding on, with the National Weather Service keeping Extreme Heat Warnings in effect for both Yuma County and Imperial County through Tuesday evening.
Highs are expected to range from 110 to 115 degrees across the region, with overnight lows staying warmer than normal a combination that brings major heat risk for vulnerable populations. The hottest spots will be in the Imperial Valley and along the Lower Colorado River.
While skies stay mostly sunny and storm chances remain low through Tuesday, humidity will begin creeping back in by midweek.
That added moisture could drop daytime highs slightly and bring a small chance for showers or thunderstorms about 20% for lower deserts like Yuma and El Centro by Wednesday afternoon.
Better storm chances arrive Thursday and Friday as moisture deepens, with a 30-40% chance for the lower deserts and higher odds over the surrounding mountains. Highs by then will settle closer to 100-107 degrees.
By the weekend, drier air returns and storm chances fade, but temperatures are expected to stay near seasonal averages.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors during peak heat, stay hydrated, and check on those without access to adequate cooling.
