Heat wave intensifies across Yuma and Imperial Counties with triple-digit temperatures

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Scorching summer conditions are here to stay as Yuma and Imperial Counties brace for yet another wave of extreme heat.

Temperatures are expected to climb to between 110 and 114 degrees across the lower desert areas starting Friday and continuing into the weekend.

While Thursday's highs sit around 108–111, conditions will intensify as a strong high-pressure ridge settles over the region.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Yuma County, effective 10 a.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Saturday, citing dangerously hot daytime temperatures and warm overnight lows that could pose health risks for vulnerable populations.

Although a slight increase in lower-level moisture could trigger isolated storms east of Yuma, any precipitation is expected to be short-lived and confined to higher terrain.

The risk of gusty winds and blowing dust from collapsing thunderstorms remains low but cannot be ruled out entirely.

Heading into the weekend, conditions will stay mostly dry, and monsoon moisture will retreat further east. Sunday may offer slight relief, with temps dipping a couple of degrees, but highs will still likely hit 110 degrees in many spots.

Looking ahead to next week, forecasters warn of another even more intense heat wave, with highs potentially reaching 112 to 116 degrees by midweek.

Record-breaking temperatures are on the table as a strong ridge builds again across the region.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and check on those who may be especially vulnerable to heat, including the elderly, young children, and pets.
