Hot, dry conditions continue across both Yuma and Imperial Counties

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's another hot and dry stretch across Yuma and Imperial Counties, with highs around 110 degrees expected to continue through the week.

The National Weather Service says a moderate heat risk remains in effect, and conditions will stay well above average for this time of year.

Early-week hopes for monsoon rain have mostly dried up. Moisture that was supposed to drift into the region from the east is now expected to stay bottled up over southeastern Arizona and parts of New Mexico.

For our area, that means clear skies, intense sun, and no meaningful relief in sight.

There is a slim chance of isolated showers or storms reaching the far east desert by Thursday evening, but even those odds are dropping fast.

Models now show drier air moving in from the southwest by the weekend, shutting down storm chances completely.

Looking ahead, temperatures could stay near or even climb above 110 through next week. Forecasters say there's a small chance we could be looking at an early August extreme heat event, with temperatures nearing 115 degrees if high pressure strengthens over the region.

Residents are urged to stay cool, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
