Midweek storm chances could bring wind and rain to Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - After a string of hot and dry days, some changes are on the way for Yuma County and the Imperial Valley.

Temperatures will stay well above average early this week, with highs in the 110-degree range through Tuesday.

But by Wednesday, conditions are expected to shift, bringing a slight cool down, stronger winds, and chances for scattered rain.

Moisture is moving back into the region from the south, and Wednesday into early Thursday looks to be the most active window for storm development.

Forecast models show a 20-30% chance for isolated showers or thunderstorms across the lower deserts, including Yuma and El Centro.

Wind gusts could reach 35 to 45 miles per hour, especially in the late afternoon and evening hours. Blowing dust may become a hazard in rural areas, particularly along desert highways and agricultural fields.

Localized rainfall totals could vary, with most areas picking up less than a quarter inch, though isolated pockets could see more if storms form.

Humidity will climb during the middle of the week before conditions dry out again heading into the weekend. Highs may briefly fall below 105 degrees by Thursday, but the heat is expected to return by Saturday.

The National Weather Service has placed parts of our region under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall due to the potential for isolated heavy downpours.

We'll continue tracking the latest developments.
