Dangerous heat peaks as Extreme Heat Warning continues
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) -Â Brutal heat is set to peak today across Yuma and the Imperial Valley.
Temperatures are expected to soar between 115 and 118 degrees Wednesday afternoon, levels that flirt with record-breaking territory with overnight lows remaining in the upper 80s to low 90s, offering little respite.
Residents are under an Extreme Heat Warning through Thursday evening and are urged to take precautions.
Avoid outdoor activity during the peak heat hours of mid-day, stay well hydrated even if you're not feeling thirsty, and wear light, loose clothing.
With moisture surging in from the Gulf of California, humidity levels may climb to 50–60% at night, which only adds to the discomfort.
In addition, gusty winds are forecast to develop by Thursday afternoon, reaching speeds of 25–35 mph.
This increased wind activity, combined with the ongoing dry and hot conditions, will elevate fire danger especially in open desert areas and parts of rural agricultural land.
Although a slight cooling trend is expected this weekend with high temperatures dropping closer to 110-112 degrees, conditions will still remain well above normal.
Early signals suggest that some moisture might make a return next week, but for now, residents should prepare for several more days of severe heat.
Stay safe, stay indoors if you can, and keep updated with the latest weather forecasts.
