First Alert Forecast: Blowing Dust expected in Yuma County as temperatures hold near normal
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for parts of Yuma County Wednesday afternoon as strong outflow winds from nearby thunderstorms could stir up desert dust and create hazardous driving conditions.
The advisory runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Although most of the rain and thunderstorm activity is expected to stay east of Yuma, the area could still see gusty winds pushing dust across highways and open desert.
Wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour or more are possible, especially along Interstate 8, where visibility could suddenly drop to under a mile.
The National Weather Service is urging drivers to be prepared for changing conditions. If a dust storm hits, pull safely off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake until visibility improves.
Rain is not expected in Yuma itself, but isolated storms to the east could produce brief downpours and localized flooding in higher terrain.
High temperatures will stay near normal today, with a forecast high of 104 degrees. That trend continues through Saturday before a significant warm-up arrives next week, with temperatures possibly reaching 112 to 113 degrees by Tuesday.
Dry weather is expected to settle in starting Thursday night and continue through the holiday weekend.
