100,000 evacuations ordered in face of raging wildfire
Emergency officials order 100,000 people to evacuate their homes in the face of a major wildfire on the northern edge of Los Angeles.
The so-called Saddleridge Fire has blackened about 823 acres. It’s currently burning dangerously close to homes.
The fire broke out around seven Thursday night. At this point fire crews have achieved no containment.
This morning firefighting airplanes joined water-dropping helicopters in battle the blaze.
Flames have damaged at least 23 homes. They threaten another 23,000.
Schools and colleges in the area have shut down as a precaution. Key freeways are also closed down.
