CAUGHT ON CAMERA:Paramedics rescued from floodwaters on Hawaii’s Big Island

NAALEHU, HI (NBC, KYMA) - There were some tense moments for two paramedics in Hawaii Saturday as hurricane Lala brushed by the islands.

Video from the Hawaii National Guard shows those paramedics standing on their vehicle after it become trapped in raging floodwaters.

The National Guard troops were able to get the paramedics to safety, just before their truck was washed down stream.

Hurricane Lala weakened on Sunday to a tropical storm, although, its heavy rains and winds were strong enough to sweep around 100 homes off their foundations.

Also more than 200,000 customers were without power due to downed trees and power lines.

That included nearly two-thirds of customers on the Big Island.
