Essential IID employees living on job site to stay protected
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-Essential workers at Imperial Irrigation District (IID), are now living at their job site in order to stay protected from the coronavirus.
According to IID, they will be housing 32 employees who are vital in providing Imperial County residents with water and energy.
“They have voluntarily stepped up to basically to live at the job site 24 hours a day for the next three weeks,” said Bob Schettler, IID public officer.
“They’ll be working alternate 12-hour shifts. So what this does is, it keeps them safe and it keeps IID able to deliver reliable energy and water to our customers, which is what our customers depend on,” said Schettler.
IID said they are also helping customers who are struggling financially during the pandemic. electricity will not be shut down for customers unable to pay their bill, but they are asking that customers contact IID so they can provide customers with further assistance that may be available to them.
The IID serves over 400,000 people in the Imperial and Coachella Valley.
