Education magazine recognizes IVC

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-Imperial Valley College (IVC), has made it to the February issue of the Hispanic Outlook Higher Education Magazine.

The magazine has recognized IVC as one of the leading colleges for Hispanics in the United States.

"I am honored that IVC is recognized as one of the top 25 community colleges in the country to assist students of color to achieve their goal in earning a degree," said Dr. Martha Garcia, IVC superintendent, and president.

The magazine took student enrollment and a total number of degrees granted into consideration for their selection.

We spoke to several students in the English as a Second Language Department who were all grateful for the opportunities IVC has for Hispanics.

"It's awesome, I think this college has provided the opportunity for many students to continue their education. It's opened up a pathway for us to get a career and have a better life. We all deserve that opportunity," said Rosa Hernandez, IVC student.

She says working with kids has always been her dream. She says getting her degree wouldn't be possible without the programs IVC has for Hispanic students like her.

According to the school's superintendent, that's what IVC is all about.

"The purpose of this institution is to enable students to succeed and transform their dreams into a reality," said Garcia.
