IVC men’s soccer hires Tigers head coach Marco Aguilera
The man who led Imperial High for the past nine seasons now takes over the Desert Warriors, while retaining his role with the Tigers
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - If you see the soccer pitch at Imperial Valley College, you'll find it under renovation.Â
However, it's much more than the field getting rebuilt, as Marco Aguilera is taking over as head coach of the men's soccer program.Â
"I believe there's a lot of talent in the valley that could be brought up to Imperial Valley College, and that's going to help us out," Aguilera said.
Aguilera has coached the Imperial High soccer team for the past nine years, winning a San Diego section title in 2022.
Now, he takes over the IVC program, with his goals already set.Â
"Within the next couple, two to three years, have Imperial Valley College, make it to, you know a playoffs, something that hasn't been done in the past 25 to 30 years," Aguilera said.
Aguilera says the first step towards the postseason will be making sure he gets the Valley's best players, something he can do while still coaching the Tigers, whose seasons take place right after IVC's.
"Going back to high school will help me look at new talent and hopefully bring them back over here," Aguilera said.
At the end of the day, it will all be about reshaping the Desert Warriors identity.
"You know the idea is to rebuild the program and you know let IVC be known by other schools and players and hopefully get more talented players here," Aguilar said.
