(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Today is national Johnny Appleseed day.

September 26th marks the birthday of the man credited with planting apple trees across America.

His real name was john chapman, born in Massachusetts back in 17-74.

From there, he moved on to pennsylvania, west virginia, ohio and indiana.

Many cities across those states honor Johnny Appleseed with parks or monuments.

To celebrate, pick some apples, or bite into a golden delicious or caramel apple.
