California prepares for possible power outages

(KYMA,KECY/CNN) - California residents prepare for more possible power outages as the state's record-breaking temperatures are projected to continue.

On Tuesday afternoon, california's grid reached peak demand at over 52-thousand mega-watts....hitting an all-time record for the state.

The state's maximum capacity is 56-thousand megawatts.

Several businesses were forced to close their doors due to power outages.

And while california was able to avoid rotating outages, thousands of customers were still left without power.

Many of those outages were described as "heat-related"...meaning the hot temperatures damaged or threatened equipment.

Another flex alert is being issued for today and california  is urging residents to conserve energy in order to reduce power outages.
