Pregnant Thanksgiving traveler gives birth in airport
Baby's middle name commemorates unusual arrival
CHARLOTTE, NC (KYMA/NBC News) - A traveling mother is celebrating a special holiday delivery, but the gift didn't arrive exactly the way she expected it.
Nereida Araujo was on a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina from Tampa, Florida on Wednesday when she felt her water break.
"We fell asleep and I woke up because I felt a pop on my lower back and then I felt the water lust like leaking," the new mother recalls.
Nereida thought she had at least a little time, but her baby wasn't in the mood to wait.
"I thought I was actually going to be able to make it out the plane and be transferred to the hospital, but it just happened so quick. She just came so fast." says Nereida.
Paramedics delivered her five-pound, eight-ounce daughter in the airport's jetway. Nereida says an unusual celebration followed her daughter's birth.
"Everybody was cheering for me and clapping and they had their phones out, and they were saying congratulations, and I was like yes..."
Nereida named her daughter Lizyana Sky Taylor. She says she chose the middle name "Sky" to commemorate where her daughter was born.
