Cruise ship detained at PortMiami

MIAMI (NBC, KYMA) - A cruise ship detained at PortMiami, forcing the cancellation of its scheduled sailing.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the MSC Poesia was held Sunday for an expanded examination to verify the ship's compliance with international standards and U.S. regulations.

It's not clear what specific regulatory issues prompted the inspection.

MSC Cruises said it made the difficult decision to cancel the 11-night voyage after the matter could not be resolved in time for departure.

The cruise line said passengers will receive full refunds and help making travel arrangements.

Guests are being allowed to remain on board until Thursday as they make plans to get home.
