Gunman in West Philadelphia opens fire on two police officers killing one

PHILADELPHIA (NBC, KYMA) - A gunman shot and killed a police officer and injured another in West Philadelphia overnight, officials said.

Late Saturday morning, Commissioner Kevin Bethel revealed that forty year-old officer Shane Seiber died from his injuries.

Police said they first received a report of a man with a gun on a porch in West Philadelphia at 12:22 a.m. on Saturday.

Officer Seiber and a 33-year-old officer responded to the location around 12:50 a.m. when a gunman opened fire, officials said.

Seiber was shot three times while the 33-year-old officer was shot 12 times, officials said.

Both officers were taken to the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where they underwent surgery.

While Seiber died from his injuries, officials have not yet revealed the condition of the second officer.
